Canning Reserve to Williamstown Beach - Week 10 – Session 4 – 24 km Long Run

A goose bump inducing start (6C) in Canning Reserve saw me finishing in a balmy conditions (21C) at Williamstown Beach twenty-four kilometres later.  My HR was a little above where I wanted it to be (75% as opposed to 70%) but that may have been something to do with the warm conditions.   It was my longest run so far and I found the distance challenging, but that’s what this cycle of training is all about.

As Hal says you should finish the run feeling tired, but not exhausted. I returned to Canning Reserve in the afternoon with Sonia and Angus to pick up the car. We walked a few kilometres up the river in wonderful spring weather. It was good to give the legs a gentle workout after the morning run and spend some time with the family. Next week steps up to 25km (16 miles)which according to most coaches is where profound physiological and psychological changes take place in a long run.
