11.3km today for the midweek, sorta long run. Acting on Hal’s advice I ran the middle miles at my anticipated marathon pace . I managed to sustain an average pace of 6:04 between 3km and 9km with a Zone 2 HR.
I based the pace on my best 10km time of 54:25 minutes using the McMillan running calculator. All things been equal this would equate to a 4:15 marathon time. Realistically this been my first marathon I will not be pushing myself to run a this theoretical pace and adopt a more conservative approach. If I still feel OK in the last 10km I might pick it up for a grandstand finish. But my goal remains to finish the marathon not a time.
